Thirteen engineering consulting companies which have been in operation for over three decades were honoured for "30 years of engineering excellence" at the Jamaica Institution of Engineers (JIE) annual awards banquet at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Saturday, November 28, under the theme 'Engineering: Wealth Through Productivity'.
The awards were presented at the dinner by JIE President, David Chung, following the recognition of 13 companies who are 'major employers of practising engineers' at the preceding reception that evening.
Immediate past president of the JIE, Joseph Aryee, presented the JIE 2008-2009 Council Awards including 'the president's cup', 'best division', 'most outstanding student - University of the West Indies and University of Technology' and the prestigious 'project of the year' award.
Noting that the JIE was taking the opportunity to honour its own, Chung said "the engineering profession, like the many structures we have been instrumental in building, has withstood many challenges. All of our awardees are deserving of the recognition to be bestowed on them. They are an inspiration and an example to not just our profession, but skills-based professions on a whole."
Chung said, "The awards dinner was a celebration befitting the talent, commitment and dedication of the awardees."
Popular artiste Tessanne Chin and the Humming Bird Steelband entertained guests.
