Cop held in Clarendon shooting released

Henry: He was taken in, questioned and his cellular phone taken, but he was released pending further investigation.

One of two policemen held in Clarendon on Wednesday, following a shoot-out involving rival gangs has been released.

However, the policeman who is stationed in the Corporate Area could still face prosecution as investigators continue to probe the shooting which left an alleged gang leader dead.

"He was taken in, questioned and his cellular phone taken, but he was released pending further investigation," Superinten-dent Dathan Henry, head of the Clarendon police, told The Gleaner.

Henry noted that the other cop, a member of the Island Special Constabulary Force, was injured when the car in which he was travelling crashed. He remained in hospital under guard.

On Wednesday, a shoot-out involving criminals on the Hayes main road left alleged gang leader, Christopher Greensword, dead.

Greensword, the reported head of the Boston gang, was on his way from court when the car in which he was travelling was fired on by suspected members of the St Catherine-based Clansman gang.

Gunfire traded

Persons in both speeding cars traded gunfire before they were accosted by members of the police team.

During a chase, both cars crashed and the police held four men, including the two members of the force. Three of those held were admitted to hospital with wounds sustained when the vehicles crashed.

Henry said Greensword's body was taken from one of the vehicles and it appeared he had been shot by his rivals.
