The police remain satisfied with the security in place at Jamaica House despite the attack on a member of the force at the Hope Road, St Andrew, entrance to the premises on Wednesday.

A policeman attached to the Protective Services Division had his throat slashed by a man who was denied entry to the property, which houses the Office of the Prime Minister, about 4:45 Wednesday afternoon.

The man was later arrested by members of a passing police patrol. The cop was treated at hospital and released.

Claims rejected

Yesterday, acting Police Commissioner Owen Ellington expressed regret at the attack, but rejected claims that it represented a breakdown in security.

"It is one of those situations that can occur at any checkpoint where persons are posted for access control. It does not, in my view, represent any breakdown in security at Jamaica House," Ellington told journalists.

"In fact, it doesn't even amount to a serious breach of security. He did not get into Jamaica House because the procedures were being followed," Ellington added.

However, he said the security arrangements at Jamaica House were being reviewed regarding the number of persons manning the entry points.
