Cameras and barking dogs
The Editor, Sir:

I am asking the new acting Commissioner of Police (ACP) Owen Ellington to contact the minister of national security, Dwight Nelson, and to urge him to consult with the Government to get more surveillance cameras installed all across Jamaica so that the police can work more effectively, and that people can be more aware of intruders and criminals.

We need surveillance cameras from boundary to boundary in this country. With the swift movement of murderers and wrongdoers - left, right and centre, we need 'watchful eyes' all around.

Second, the ACP needs to pressure the Government to speed up the resumption of capital punishment whether by hanging, lethal injection or the electric chair and do away with convicted murderers once and for all.

Third, I heard that there are places that the police are afraid to go because of criminals. How can this be? It's unbelievable. It's like a woman who is afraid to go into her house because of a lizard. The ACP should encourage them not to be afraid.

Finally, many homeowners should invest in acquiring watchdogs. When homes are too quiet, killers and robbers will find it easier to carry out their acts. Please, put some dogs around your houses.

I am, etc.,

DONALD JEFFERSON
