Using cameras to fight crime is the way of the future since all else has failed. Citizens everywhere should use the cameras on their cellphones to fight crime. TVJ has shown that cameras fight crime effectively. Jamaica needs every innovative way to solve the crime problem and to put the criminals out of business right now.
The methods that the police and Government are using to fight crime are not effective. One informed government official said that the violent crime rate will not go down for another 10 years! That is not acceptable. New and innovative ways must be found to fight the criminals who demonstrate that they are brazen and have no fear of being caught because, chances are, they won't be.
chopper arrested
In my view, this trend could change, for on the evening news of September 25 it was reported that the Papine machete chopper was arrested, just two days after the traumatic act of violence was seen all across Jamaica on the television. Earlier reports said that none of the eyewitnesses had come forward, the personnel at the nearby police station didn't even know about it hours after the attack, and we saw on the television that nobody went to the aid of the helpless victim. Bravo, TVJ, for having the guts to turn your camera against the criminals who have taken over our country.
Citizens should now follow this up and use their cellphone cameras to film whatever crimes they witness, without putting themselves in harm's way, and to give it to the media so the criminal acts can be shown on television and there can be more arrests in short order after the broadcast of the footage.
violent incidents
Almost every night the television news reports violent incidents between the police and citizens, with the police claiming to be attacked and so they had to kill the perpetrators, while citizens claim that young men were killed in cold blood. If cellphone cameras were recording these incidents and the recordings shown on television, Jamaica would learn the truth about more of these incidents.
