Josef, who represented Calabar and Wolmer's at the National Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships, set a national junior record of 50.24 in winning the hurdles title in 2006. He represented Jamaica at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Sherbrooke, Canada, where he made it to the semi-finals. In 2006, he was again on the big stage at the junior level, the IAAF World Junior Championships in Grosseto, Italy, but failed to make it past the first round.
